Offered as Hellenistic/Ptolemaic: very high price.

Indeed there are known Hellenistic bronze rings with female Egyptian royal portraits showing them wearing the so-called melon coiffure: braided hair pulled into the chignon at the back .

This can be seen well on coins of the several Cleopatras.

Problem is that this ring does not show the Ptolemaic melon coiffure but rather a lady with typical Antonine hair style, which is of course 2nd century and there do not appear to be any Roman bronze rings of this style in the 2nd century.

Here is this ring rotated so you can see it better.

Another (big) problem is that we can find another, the bezel alone, but from the same mould.

Here are both together.

Very thin artificial "patina" easily rubs off and modern steel file marks on the back?

Sooner or later we will find another.....?

An intaglio impression made in gold sheet.

Thanks to Ittai G for spotting these.
