YOU ARE HERE:>>Real or FAKE>Fake cuneiform tablets, section 3, page 6

Continuing to look at these fakes and copies sold in the many hundreds on eBay by Michael Schumann in Hamburg over the last few years.

I had saved the images of quite a few and looking through them I find many like these:

Quiter a few of them!

Often this is on the side of the tablet but alo, as below, within the text.

And very recently he sold this one

The middle line at the top reads gaba-ri, "COPY"

And it is!!

The maker has copied this tablet from one published online in the CDLI database

AND the forger here displays their expertise with cuneiform because the copy is clearer than the original!

The original is an Administrative tablet, an account of grain,  excavated in Girsu (modern Tello), dated to the Ur III period (circa 2100-2000 BC)  and now kept in the Harvard Museum of the Ancient Near East, Harvard University in the States.

What is on offer by this seller today (5/3/24)

The next day.....

This seller has suddenly removed all these!

I wonder why.

A little while later: oh dear I spoke too soon.
