The vast majority of ancient Roman glass of an ordinary domestic type on the market is from the Eastern Empire, Syria and Israel et cetera. It is generally almost impossible to determine if a piece is from Eastern Europe or from the Eastern Empire, bar the very small 4th century unguentaria which abound in the East and have also been found in some quantity in Western Asia.

This nice bottle, in a lightweight, very pale green , transparent glass is from Hungary.

Totally intact bar a tiny chip on the rim as you can see.

The pontil has been smoothed off.

104 mm..

Roman; Eastern European, 2nd/3rd century.

Price: 190 GBP
