Although undecorated and with the pottery fabric having fired brown rather than the intended black, this Lebes has it's original lid and is in a particulalrly delicate and thin walled fabric for the type.

A suitable wedding present! The name  of this type of vessel  literally means "marriage vase". It is a form of ancient Greek pottery which was used in marriage ceremonies, probably for the ritual sprinkling of the bride with water before the wedding.

Intact though some surface wear as you can see.
