A very large, handsome, bronze Celtic fibula in good
metal with a fine very dark green, almost black, patina.
A small area of stabilised corrosion on one side. 300mm
Celtic, circa 6th century BC ..........................................................
Additional information from Renate with thanks.
Some notes about your Thrace Hallstatt piece (4087).
Following 'Gergova, Diana (1987): Fruh- und
altereisenzeitliche Fibeln in Bulgarien' this is a Gergova 'Zweischleifige
Bogenfibeln B 12y'
Yours is pretty similar to 125 I think (see attached
plate, please).
Some related types in her work have decorative lines on
top of the footplate like yours, but it is rare. The B 12y brooches are dated
to Ha B3, beginning of the 7th century B.C. to the middle of the 6th century
B.C.
..........................................................
You will also find quite a lot of useful information from
Renate in the section on fake fibulae and brooches.
