The collector of ancient jewellery I acquired this pair of interesting earrings from believed them to be Achaemenid but I cannot find any parallels for such as Achaemenid and they look to me to be Roman, Eastern Empire and rather later than Achaemenid.

They are interesting in that the method of forming gold sheet over a wax core is very clearly shown. One has most of the wax core inside and the other is empty of the wax core.

They are not quite a matching pair as one has the small shield placed higher than the other.

25mm long.

Eminently wearable.

I would say Roman, Eastern Empire, circa 2nd/3rd century.

Price: 425 GBP
