Byzantine Christian lamp with wreath decoration

Period: Byzantine

Origin: Probably northern Levant (Antioch area)

Date: late 5th - 6th century AD

A particularly good example of this type, retaining much of its original red-brown slip. Wreath decoration surrounds the large filling-hole and traces of palm-branch decoration are visible on the shoulders.

Manufacture: Mouldmade

Size: L. 11.2 cm
