This is a really extravagant shape! Basically a Nestoris krater. This form was particular to the Messapian speaking indigenous Italic people in South East Italy, near the Greek colonies in Apulia and Calabria, during the 5th to 1st century BC. The shape is called a "trozella"

This fantastic and large piece is recomposed from large fragments but has been done well. There are a few small chips but all in all it's pretty grand. The painting on this sort of ware is usually rather faded and a general umber colour such as here.
