Feb 2024

This seller in Germany has been selling fake cuneiform tablets for several years.

I discussed him here (Section 3, page 1)

Whereas he has sold some of these fakes for many hundreds of dollars, he is also willing to accept very low offers.

No doubt because he still has  hundreds and hundreds of these to offload.

It's "pretty" but  it's modern!

This is sad really.

I've been on and off watching this seller in Germany flog these modern copies and nonsense text cuneiform tablets as genuine for several years.

He must be paying someone who reads cuneiform well to create these. I say that because real, genuine cuneiform signs are very often used , though used in a haphazard way amounting to utter nonsense. But also quite often, as I have documented here,  they produce quite well writen copies of known and published tablets.

But  I've only very recently noticed something.

Look at this tablet he has very recently sold.

On one side of this tablet is very clearly written.

It is rather more clearly written than the rest of the text and for that reason attracted my attention.

So, someone who made this fake cuneiform tablet went to extra care to form these cuneiform signs especially clearly.

So what might they mean?

The transliteration of these signs is : gaba-ri

And they mean..................................... "COPY" !

See here.

After seeing that I realised that quite often the maker of these tablets writes "COPY"  on them, irrespective of whether they are indeed copies  or simply nonsense texts.

So I went back and looked at a few more of this seller's corrupt offerings
